Independence for Catalonia, Independence for All

The Catalan people will soon face a unique opportunity: the chance to take tangible steps towards joining the community of independent nations. Most nations to gain this privilege have only done so by force of arms and the blood of their countrymen. Determination and faith will be required of them nonetheless.

Not surprisingly, the leaders of the West's unsustainable multinational empires are against this move:
"US President Barack Obama and British premier David Cameron, among others, have called for Spain to stay united."
I would assume if Blessed Kaiser Karl of Austria could be reached from beyond the grave, he also would oppose this measure, along with a majority of the final Emperors of Rome.

This alone should be enough to give the Catalans direction. If those who have turned their States into an endless misery of racial violence and hatred, of political and religious persecution, desire that you do one thing, it would be most wise to do the other. The Leader of the Slave World is not at all to be trusted.

In marked contrast to today, there was a time when America actually stood up for the freedom of peoples instead of seeking to further bind their chains. During my study abroad, I was very surprised that the first thing I saw getting off the train in Praha hlavní nádraží was a memorial dedicated to President Woodrow Wilson. (Note: this was around the time that Glenn Beck was savaging him as the Antichrist every night on Fox News)
A better leader than we have today.
President Wilson's Fourteen Points were a master work, a road map to a sustainable international order of respect for all peoples. Not only Czechoslovakia, but the majority of Central and Eastern Europe benefited from their wisdom. Reproduced below in part, notice the beauty of each of these submerged peoples rising from their slumber into the life of nations, each line being a new and unique July Fourth, a gift of the old American Dream to a grateful world:
"IX. A re-adjustment of the frontiers of Italy should be effected along clearly recognizable lines of nationality.
X. The people of Austria-Hungary, whose place among the nations we wish to see safeguarded and assured, should be accorded the freest opportunity to autonomous development.
XI. Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro should be evacuated; occupied territories restored; Serbia accorded free and secure access to the sea; and the relations of the several Balkan states to one another determined by friendly counsel along historically established lines of allegiance and nationality; and international guarantees of the political and economic independence and territorial integrity of the several Balkan states should be entered into.
XII. The Turkish portion of the present Ottoman Empire should be assured a secure sovereignty, but the other nationalities which are now under Turkish rule should be assured an undoubted security of life and an absolutely unmolested opportunity of autonomous development, and the Dardanelles should be permanently opened as a free passage to the ships and commerce of all nations under international guarantees.
XIII. An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations, which should be assured a free and secure access to the sea, and whose political and economic independence and territorial integrity should be guaranteed by international covenant."

It must be noted what they did not do. Floating around before the war were a number of proposals to create a United States of Greater Austria in which the nations of Central Europe, though freer, would still be bound to the power and benefit of one leader. Wilson rejected this, and rightly so: disparate nations bound together in such a way would not bring peace, but only a struggle for dominance over the others. (much as the Hungarians, getting their autonomy from German dominance within the Empire, turned around and used it to viciously suppress the Slovaks and other minorities in the Kingdom) Such an act, rather than making peace, merely means the games begin in earnest, as anyone in identity politics-ravaged America can tell you.

Nations bound together will only seek to exploit one another. The American North to the American South; Germans and Hungarians over Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenes, Poles, Ukrainians, Croatians, and Romanians; Serbia over the South Slavs, and American Blacks and Hispanics over American Whites. This is not a unique mark of evil upon these exploitative populations, but merely human nature. If man can take from the other, he will: egalitarianism merely makes for an easy mark.

The Left tells us that they will change human nature, that such exploitation is merely the transition to "pure communism" in which such things will pass away, that the past and the present hold no lessons for us. But reason tells us to pay heed. Man is what he is, but even given that, we may still create a better world. Not through the gnosticism of the Cultural Marxist, but with the opened eyes of the Alternative and Traditional Rights may some measure of peace be brought to this world.

And Catalonia can take the first step. They can lead a new birth of nations, like the fall of Austria-Hungary, like the disintegration of Yugoslavia, like the end of the Soviet Union. Let them find their courage, and let us be brave enough and wise enough to follow.
