Slovakia Knows Who They Are...

...why don't we? From the BBC:
"Slovakia says it will only accept Christians when it takes in Syrian refugees under a EU relocation scheme. [...] Interior ministry spokesman Ivan Netik said Muslims would not be accepted because they would not feel at home. [...] "We could take 800 Muslims but we don't have any mosques in Slovakia so how can Muslims be integrated if they are not going to like it here?""
Slovakia, like most of Central Europe, had to hold on to its culture through waves of migration, invasion, and attempted violent cultural conversion. Thus you'll notice an unstated premise in Mr. Netik's words that you would be hard pressed to get from a Western European. Slovakia is Christian, and they are not looking to change faiths or to apologize for that fact. An American would snivel when saying those words, as though he were a naughty little schoolchild, but Mr. Netik merely speaks the truth and expects it to be accepted.

Nor does Slovakia merely talk the talk. I've known third and fourth generation Americans who have turned around and gotten Irish citizenship by virtue of descent. In keeping with with our mission to always be prepared for the worst, I wondered how hard it would be to pick up a second passport from the ancestral homeland.

In short, pretty much impossible. Slovakia doesn't give citizenship to:

  1. Criminals.
  2. Those who don't speak the language.
  3. Deadbeats of any kind.
Additionally, citizenship only comes after a long litany of other resident statuses, each of which have equally stringent guidelines, and all of which are pretty much impossible to meet for someone whose marketable skillset doesn't translate well across borders.

America, of course, does exactly the opposite, the more useless, the better. Poor huddled masses and all...

Think about that for a second. For all the propaganda you've imbibed to promote the American way, which policy is the natural one, that of America, or that of Slovakia? Is it right to apologize for being who you are, in the country your ancestors built, or is that insanity? Mr. Netik truly has no reason to apologize to anyone, because his children will inherit a Slovak Slovakia. Who knows what America's children will wake up in...

  1. Political correctness has swung pretty far in America for a while, along with widespread apathy. I guess that's what happens when a country is fat, dumb and happy for so long. But there is one school of thought that when things get bad, it will cause people to start actually paying attention (see http://www.amazon.com/The-End-Near-Going-Awesome-ebook/dp/B009NF6CGY)

I haven't actually read that book ("The End Is Near and It's Going to Be Awesome") but apparently that's more of less what it's about.

  2. A slightly more realistic version of that view can be found in Victoria by William Lind. Mr. Lind, however, doesn't sugarcoat it. Most often, as put forward by Sir John Glubb in The Fate of Empires and Search For Survival, the fall of one empire coincides with it's replacement, not its rebirth, and a rather unpleasant time for the people within the fallen state. Survival of a people, as opposed to mere replacement, requires that part of that culture remained in touch with the vital nomadicism that generates the great conqueror-peoples, or has been moved to a fresh austerity by some new ideology. While there might be some rednecks with enough spirit to build something worthwhile somewhere in the ashes, I don't think they will be able, or even want to project force across the whole continent. By the time people pay attention, it will be far too late for most.
